On request of my various readers today I am going to advise you how to install Cydia. Before going much into installation process, I will be briefing you about Cydia and how to download and install it on your mobile device.
What is Cydia ?
Cydia is a graphical user interface (GUI) software application for iOS that facilitate users to search and install software packages (like apps, interface customizations, and system extensions) on a jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. You will be amazed to know that Cydia is an open-source alternative to Installer.app on iOS.
The Cydia GUI is very similar to iStore. It is an aide for all App developers for getting their programs downloaded by the masses.
Installing Cydia for iPhones having Automatic Cydia installation with JailBreaking Tools
Cydia is so eminent that most of the JailBreaking Softwares available on internet provide a default installation of Cydia. JailBreaking softwares like Spirit Jailbreak, Pwnage Tool, etc do come with an option to install Cydia as jailbreaking proceeds.
If you are already using one of these tools to jailbreak your iPhone then you can easily select the option to get Cydia automatically installed. In such cases there is no need to carry on a separate installation of Cydia on your devices.
Installation for iPhones not having Automatic Cydia installation with JailBreaking Tools
There are certain softwares like blackra1n that need to carry out Additional steps for Cydia Installation. In such softwares Cydia does not come as an installation, which means that it will not get installed automatically while JailBreaking process. Please follow below steps to install Cydia.
- Complete jailbreak on your iPhone using blackra1n.
- Open blackra1n
- Select Cydia and tap Install.
- Now you will need an active internet connection to complete the installation successfully.
Installing Cydia for phones without JailBreaking:
I know you will be having a question that at first place why we need JailBreaking. To answer that Cydia could only run an iPhone that has been jailbroken. If your iPhone is not jailbroken then I am sorry but you cannot use Cydia. The basic reason being that Apple strictly restricts creatin softwares and certain process due to a violation of its terms and conditions. Mostly the apps on Cydia are those that would not fit into these set standards. Not like iTunes App Store where each and every app is reviewed by Apple before posting it. This is also causes security risk for the user due to which Apple doenot allow Cydia and this is why JailBroken iPhones could only install Cydia.
Installation Process for iPhones without jailbreaking again:
To be honest I would clearly suggest you that the process of installing Cydia alone, without having to jailbreak a phone again is somewhat lengthy process. It includes following steps:
- Download Cydia.deb file from here.
- After download is successful, SSH into your iPhone through softwares like CyberDuck or WinSCP.
- Now Place the Cydia.deb in the ROOT directory via the SSH connection.
- Now Type “dpkg -i /cydia.deb” to install Cydia.
- Then Type “killall -HUP SpringBoard” to respring your iPhone.
