In today’s digital age, laptops or notebooks have become a vital part of our day to day life. “Laptop battery not charging” is a very common problem which almost every one of us has been through someday. This word in itself is a nightmare for many of us and really leads to hell lot of frustration. If your laptop battery is not charging then this article will be of great help.

Laptop Battery Not Charging

Laptop’s Power Adapter

I have seen many times the problem is with laptop’s power adaptor and we spend our time cursing the battery.
It’s a very simple and basic thing to do before trying out other options. You could follow below steps to do this:

  • Try any other adapter by borrowing it from your colleague or friend. Please ensure that the adaptor is of same make and model as your original adapter.
  • Plug in the borrowed adapter into the power socket.
  • Connect the borrowed adapter into the laptop’s power slot.
  • Now check if the laptop’s power slot light has turned on. (Please note that this might work only in some laptop’s like HP wherein it turns light blue as soon as the power is plugged in).
  • Now see the tray icon of battery and check if it is showing that it’s plugged in and charging.

If this has worked for you and your laptop battery is charging now. Then it simply means that your laptop’s power adapter is faulty. You might need to replace or repair it depending on the intensity of damage. So head onto your nearest Authorized Dealer or Repair Centre to get it corrected soon. However for a long term view it would be very beneficial if you start taking care of your battery from now onwards.

If above listed method hasn’t worked out for you then it means that your laptop adapter is fine but the problem is likely to be with the battery. Read on to get rid of this problem of laptop battery not charging.

Try Rebooting Battery:

Another possible reason for laptop battery not charging might be that the battery is loose and not connected properly or has been displaced somehow. You could follow below steps to check it:

  • First of all shut down your laptop.
  • After it shuts down completely, unplug it from power supply.
  • Now carefully open the battery panel.
  • Remove the battery and clean any dust or dirt with a dry cloth.
  • Now plug the battery back into its compartment. Ensure that the battery has been correctly placed at right (positive and negative) terminals.
  • Please ensure that the battery is not loose in the compartment. If yes then for the time being you could add some paper on sides to make it tightly fitted into the compartment.
  • Now after closing the battery compartment, plug in the power supply of the laptop.
  • Restart the laptop now and check if the battery is getting charged now.

If yes then the problem is the loosely fitted battery. You could visit your nearest service centre to get it permanently solved. However for the time being you could easily follow step 6.

N.B.: Please do not put any easily inflammable material like plastic etc as it might get melted because of the laptop heat and might damage it completely.
If this method also didn’t work then there is a chance that your battery drivers are corrupted.

Re-installing Battery Drivers:

As already mentioned if none of the above listed methods have worked out for you then there are substantial chances that somehow your battery drivers have been corrupted. Please use below steps to get it corrected.

  • Firstly you need to set up a restore point so that in case of any unfortunate event you could easily restore your laptop.
  • After setting up a restore point you need to navigate to Device Manager.
  • Windows Vista or Windows 7 Users:

• Click on Start.
• Now type “DEVICE MANAGER” and hit Enter button.

  • Windows XP Users:

• Click on Start.
• Now right click on “My Computer” icon.
• Select Properties.
• After selecting Properties, Click Hardware Tab.
• Now select Device Manager Option.

  • After navigating to Device Manager. Open it.
  • Now search for the word “Batteries” in the panel. Mostly it will be available on top of the list only.
  • Once you search it, click on “+” icon to expand the panel.
  • Now you will see something with a name “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” as shown in below picture.Uninstall Battery Driver
  • Right click on it and select Uninstall option.screenshot of uninstalling battery driver
  • Please cross check that you have not uninstalled any other driver and after cross-checking confirm the Un-installation.
  • Once the device driver for battery is uninstalled. Ensure that the driver has also vanished from the Device Manager’s list.
  • Now click on “Action” menu available at top of the window.Scan for Hardware Changes
  • After the Action Menu is opened select “Scan for Hardware Changes” as shown in above picture.

Now the device drivers of your laptop battery have been re-installed. So in case the problem was due to corrupted drivers then it should have been corrected by now. Please plug in the power supply and check if your battery is charging now. If not then please follow below listed method to get rid of the problem.

Drain your battery completely using BIOS

I know you will be wondering that how come will we get the battery drained out completely as normally windows hibernates after the battery is less than a particular percentage. Please follow below step to achieve this:

  • First of all remove the power supply.
  • Now keep the laptop on until the battery level decreases and windows is automatically hibernated.
  • Once the laptop is hibernated successfully, reboot it and quickly open the BIOS Settings.
  • There are various ways to open BIOS Settings depending upon BIOS and other hardware changes. You could easily navigate to BIOS by reading the BIOS Screen carefully; it will be flashing a message like “For Set Up Press that key”. You need to simply press the key which has been mentioned in the message.
  • After this a text based screen for settings will be displayed.
  • Please do not press any key or do not do anything on this screen. Leave this screen as it is.
  • After sometime the battery will be completely drained out and your laptop will be shut down.

Now try to charge the battery by plugging in the power supply. If this approach has not worked as well then the bad news is that your battery is dead. You can either go to the authorized service centre to get a replacement done. Else you could buy another battery. Another silly option is that you have to live with it that your battery is gone for a toss and your laptop will work only when connected to a power supply.

This was all from me on laptop battery not charging. Do share your feedback or concerns related to any issues related to charging.

Google Reverse Image Search – Complete Guide http://www.geekrevealed.com/2012/04/google-reverse-image-search.html http://www.geekrevealed.com/2012/04/google-reverse-image-search.html#comments Sun, 15 Apr 2012 02:21:10 +0000 Ankit http://www.geekrevealed.com/?p=1672 Images are the most valuable treasure for a photographer or a designer. Images are the most valuable treasure for a photographer or a designer. Suppose a cameraman works all day and night trying to capture a perfect shot and then someone simply copies the image and uses it on his website without giving any credit to the photographer. How does it make him feel? So, today in this post I am going to tell you about an algorithm called Reverse Image search which can prove quiet useful in such scenarios. Basically the algorithm was called as Reverses Image Search but when Google implemented it, and then people began to call it as Google Reverse Image Search.

What is Google Reverse Image Search?

Google Reverse Image Search is a simple tool that lets you search the images reversely on Google Images. By reversely I mean that this process of searching image is totally reverse to the normal process. In the normal process you enter the keywords associated with the image and Google shows you the most relevant images based on the keywords, but here the process is exactly opposite here in this tool you supply Google with an image and Google gives you all the images that resemble to the image that you had supplied.

Google Reverse Image Search

So, this gives an opportunity to the photographers and designers to check whether their photos or designs have been copied by someone or not. If they find someone who is using their image without taking their permission or without giving due credit to the person who has actually taken or designed the image then they can take a legal action against such people.

For Whom Google Reverse Image Search is Beneficial?

Google’s Reverse Image Search is beneficial for anyone who wants to search the internet for an image that they already have. Most common examples are:

  • Monitor your self designed infographics being republished.
  • Search internet for the screen shots that your guest authors are using. This gives you another tool to check whether the posts are original or copied.
  • You can also check if any splog is copying your content. Splog is a king of blog that automatically copies niche related content. Although Google panda has slapped tons of splogs but still they can harm you if you allow splogs to copy your content without giving any credit to your blog.

What is the logic behind Reverse Image Search?

The Reverse Image Search on Google is based on the computer vision techniques. In this technique the computer ties to match an image based on the RGB and Monochromatic correlations along with the other images that Google has already indexed.

I would like to mention it here that according to my personal observations I have found that it is not 100% correct but sill can be quiet useful in finding out the most resembling images of another image.

How to do a Reverse Image Search:

Performing a Reverse Image Search on Google is quiet easy and it doesn’t needs you to be some nerd or a rocket scientist.

If you want to perform Reverse Image Search for an image on your computer.

  • All you have to do is to visit: www.images.google.com
Google Reverse engine search
  • Simply drag your image in the search textbox, after this Google will start to upload your image as shown in the above screenshot.
Google Reverse engine search 2
  • Now after uploading it will show you other images that resemble to the image that you have uploaded.

If you want to perform Reverse Image Search for an image on some url.

  • Go to www.images.google.com
Reverse engine search
  • Click the camera icon.
Reverse engine search 2
  • Enter the image url and Google will show you all the other images that resemble to your image.

Today in this post I am going to guide you on RemoveWat activation on Windows 7. This is a utility developed by Hazar Group; the basic functionality of the tool is to remove the Windows Activation Technologies also called as WAT in short. WAT is the technology that Windows uses to detect if the copy of OS installed on a particular machine is genuine or not. If WAT finds that a particular Operating system is not activated then it displays an activation message on the system.

Genuine Microsoft Software

The application bypasses the Microsoft WAT by injecting an SLIC (System licensed Internal Code) and this SLIC makes Windows fool into thinking that the Windows is genuine. The best part about it is that after bypassing the WAT you will be able to receive all the updates similar to a genuine OS.

Feature of RemoveWAT:

Before starting with the installation process, I would like to highlight few features about this tool. The tool requires no additional process after patching. On paper and logically the tool can guarantee a 100% result.

The tool is efficiently coded with safety checks to prevent damages to the OS while patching.

The tool is safe and zero risk of bricking your boot sectors.

RemoveWAT

Installation Instructions for RemoveWAT:

Now without wasting further time, I would like to quickly share the process to install RemoveWAT. Please follow below instructions to install it:

  • Firstly open the rar file and run the RemoveWAT.exe
  • Now click the button that says “Remove WAT” and allow it to restart the computer.
  • Once the system gets restarted the activation will be automatically taken care of.

Download RemoveWat tool

Please feel free to share your feedback, suggestions, and queries in the comments section below.

Disclaimer: Using applications like RemoveWAT is illegal and Geekrevealed does not support this. The article is simply written for the informational purpose and it is suggested that users should not use it.

In this post I am going to guide you on how to spell check in Excel Sheet. Most of you would be aware that in MS Word spell check is done actively and automatically while you are typing data in the document. However in Excel there is no way to do a spell check automatically.

I would suggest that it’s always good to spell check only after you are done with the data entry in the worksheet and are about to mark the sheet as complete. Please note that the steps shared below will be same for all versions of MS Excel.

Please follow below steps for spell checking in excel:

1) Press Ctrl + A and select all cells of the excel sheet.

2) Navigate to “Review” tab located at the top ribbon of the excel.

In this article I am going to guide you on how to lock cells in excel sheet. To start with I will be throwing some light on what do we achieve by locking cells. Locking cells will protect your excel sheet and will not allow any user to edit the data unless they enter the password.

Please note that the steps shared below on lock cells in excel are for Excel 2007 only however the procedure is same for Excel 2003 and other versions. Normally when you try to protect an Excel sheet all cells are made protected by default.

Please follow below steps to lock only certain cells in excel:

1)     Press Ctrl+A and Select all Cells in the Excel sheet.

2)     Now Right Click and Select “Format Cells…” option.

3)     Now navigate to “Protection Tab” and uncheck the “Locked” option.

8)     Now click on “Ok” button.

9)     Now you need to look at the top ribbon of excel sheet and select the “Review Tab”.

10)  After navigating to “Review Tab”, click on “Protect Sheet” button.

11)  Now in the “Protect Sheet” window, check “Select Unlocked Cells” only. Please note that by default “Select Locked Cells” and “Select Unlocked Cells” both are checked. So please ensure that you select the right option as mentioned here in Step 11.

So this was all about locking cells in excel. In case you want to unprotect the cells then all you need to do is to go to the “Review Tab” and select the “Unprotect Sheet” option. You will be required to re-enter your password here. After entering password the sheet will become unprotected and editable.

Please feel free to share your comments, feedback or suggestions in excel in the comments section below.

While making charts and graphs in excel it is very important to label the axes so that the person who is reading them may know what the x and y axes represents in the chart. Few days back one of my readers asked me how to label axes in excel. Actually, the option to label the axes is not quiet visible on chart. So, today in this post I will be guiding you to label axes in excel both 2007 and 2010 versions.

Label Axes in Excel 2007 and 2010 :

If you are working on excel 2007  or 2010 then after creating the graph you have to navigate to the layout tab in the ribbon and from there you can add the labels to the axes. Step by Step Instructions are as below:

  1. First of all you have to create a chart, and then select the chart data. If you already have created a chart then there is no need of this step.
  2. Now navigate to the layout option on the top ribbon, and there select the option “Axis Titles” select the “Primary Horizontal Axis Title” and finally select the option “Title Below axis”How to label axes in excel
  3. Now a default title will be placed below your horizontal axis, you can rename it as you wish.
  4. Now for Vertical Axis title again navigate to “Axis Titles”> “Primary Vertical Axis Title” , now you can select any of the vertical title types.How-to-label-axes-in-excel
  5. It will create a title box just before your vertical axis, and you can rename it.

Just recently Facebook has announced to roll another update that will enable the Facebook timeline feature for pages. Although the official date decided by Facebook to roll out this update is March 31st, 2012, but if you are curious about this timeline feature then you can enable it right now also. So, in article I will guide you on how to enable Facebook timeline for pages.

Enable Facebook Timeline for Pages

Personally saying I didn’t liked the Facebook timeline initially but now I feel that Facebook timeline is a better way of showcasing your achievements, the milestones that you have crossed. So, it makes your Facebook page more presentable.

Features in Facebook timeline:

  1. The best feature that I personally liked in the timeline view is that, you don’t have to navigate to any other page to check your Facebook page insights; it’s just located above the timeline cover.
  2. The second feature that I liked in the Facebook Timeline is the timeline cover as it makes your profile more presentable.
  3. Another feature worth mentioning is that you can highlight a wall post by clicking the “Pin to Top” option.

Steps to enable Facebook timeline:

Facebook Timeline Preview Your Page
  • Now you will see a page as shown above, here select the option “Preview your Pages”
Facebook Timeline Preview Your Page 2
  • After the above step Facebook will display you a list of all the pages associated with your account, click the button “Turn on Preview” for the page for which you want to apply the timeline.
Facebook TimeLine Preview
  • Instead of publishing the timeline directly, I will suggest you to do some customizations to it before making it live. For example you can change the Facebook timeline covers. Select the posts that you want to hide from the timeline view.
  • When you feel that you are done with the customization part, it’s time to publish the timeline. Just click on the publish button and you are done with enabling Facebook timeline for your page.

This was all about how to Enable Facebook Timeline for Pages if you have any queries then please share them below in our comments section.

Although I am not a big time fan of Firefox but still sometimes I do use Firefox because of its add-on support. Few days back while browsing on Firefox, I noticed that it is occupying a big chunk of memory on my machine. I tried to reduce its memory usage by closing out some tabs but it didn’t worked, latter I surfed this on internet and came to know that it is a very strange behaviour of Firefox generally called as Firefox memory leak. The main cause of the memory leak is that may be Firefox is not able to release the free memory properly and hence goes on taking up the memory without any limit.

Firefox memory leak

Fixing memory leaks in Firefox by using Firemin:

Firemin is a third party application that can check and optimize the memory usage of Firefox. It is also called Firefox Plumber. Firemin ideally sits in the background and manages Firefox memory from there.

Fix for Firefox memory leak issue by using Firemin

Simply install Firemin and it will automatically take care of the Firefox memory leak. You can also set Firefox to launch whenever you run Firemin. You can download Firemin here [Fix for Firefox memory leak]

Reduce Memory Leak issue in Firefox by changing configuration:

If you don’t want to install any third party application to fix Firefox memory leak then you can do certain changes in the Firefox configuration although these changes won’t fix the leaks completely but still they are quite helpful in reducing them.

  • Open the Firefox browser and in the URL bar enter “about:config”.
  • Now you will find a page where all the Firefox configurations are enlisted.
  • Right click on the configuration page and choose New > Integer and name it as “browser.cache.memory.capacity”. Set it to 16384 (means 15 MB).
  • Again right click on the configuration page and create another Integer named as “browser.cache.disk.capacity”. Set it to 15000.
  • Now create another attribute this time a Boolean one. Right click select New > Boolean and name it as “config.trim_on_minimize”. Set it to true. This means that whenever you minimize Firefox it will try to free up memory on its own.

After doing these changes restart the Firefox and you will notice that the memory leak issue in Firefox will be significantly reduced.

If you want to speed up your Firefox then you should read this post: [Speed up Firefox]
