Quiet amazed with the title? Huh. Yes, you read it right Nokia has launched a megapixel machine and it is named as Nokia Pure View 808.

Nokia pure view 808 - 41 Megapixel camera phone

Nokia Pure View 808 has Carl Zeiss lenses, placed on top of a jaw dropping 41 megapixel camera that can shoot 7728 X 5354 photos in 16:9 format or you can also select 4:3 format with 7152 X 5368. Apart from this there is nothing much special about the phone. The phone runs on Nokia’s Symbian OS.

Basically the phone has a feature of “over sampling”. Over Sampling is an algorithm that can do certain special operations with pixels, it can group seven neighbouring pixels and can combine them to form a single super pixel, with a GPU procession of one billion pixels per second. This in layman terms means that with this phone you can take photos in 5, 8 or 38 megapixel options.

Nokia pure view 808

In terms of zoom the phone has a 4X digital zoom for Images, a 3X zoom for capturing videos in 1080p mode and 6X zoom for capturing them in 720p mode. Packed with these features the phone is also the first one in Nokia phones to record HD Audio with Dolby Digital plus.

So, on paper the phone has more megapixels than any DSLR camera but the truth is if you compare the images of a 10-14Megapixel DSLR camera with Nokia Pure View’s 41 megapixel camera then you won’t see much difference and this is due to the fact that if you are looking at the images on your computer screen then your computer screen is not good enough for you to see the difference in the pixel density of a DSLR and Nokia 808 but if you print these photos on billboard then you can clearly see that Nokia 808 clearly wins the race because of more pixels.

The phone has a 360X640(nHD) screen with 512Mb of Ram and 16GB of inbuilt memory that is expandable via external memory cards.

The estimated price of Nokia Pure View 808 is €450 or $600. The phone will be available in the markets by May -2012.

What is 3D Printing ? http://www.geekrevealed.com/2012/01/what-is-3d-printing.html http://www.geekrevealed.com/2012/01/what-is-3d-printing.html#comments Mon, 16 Jan 2012 05:49:35 +0000 Ankit http://www.geekrevealed.com/?p=694 3D Printing is the latest emerging technology. 3D Printing is the latest emerging technology. It was the biggest eye catcher in the Consumer Electronics Trade Show (CES) held recently in Jan 2012.

Before going into detail, let us first understand what exactly 3D printing is. 3D printing is the process of creating three dimensional objects from digital file using a materials printer, in a way similar to printing images on paper using our normal inkjet printers.

Since 2003 there has been huge growth in the sale of 3D printers. Moreover, the cost of 3D printers has also gone down. 3D Printing is also quite useful in the fields of jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering and construction, automotive, aerospace, dental and medical industries, education, geographic information systems, civil engineering, and many others. Although as of now it has not progressed much and has its limitations. We still can’t print our favorite sports car to drive around.

What is 3D Printing

However that day is not far when you no longer need to purchase a chair in a shop or using an online retailer, but instead buy the design for the chair via internet. You would be able to customize this digital blueprint and then email the file to a local manufacturing store where the finished item would be produced and ready for collection. This futuristic scenario describes the potential of 3D printing, a form of the cutting-edge technology known as Additive Manufacturing.

How does 3D Printing Works:

Next question that would come to your mind is that how actually it works. 3D Printing is part of a group of rapid-manufacturing technologies that convert digital designs into objects that are printed three-dimensionally by a machine. More or less it works in the same way as that of a domestic inkjet printer difference being that the inkjet printer prints over a sheet of paper placing ink on the page, the 3D printer adds layer upon layer of material to build objects from bottom up. It may be worth noting that the products are created with all the inside and outside parts complete so assembly is not required. Another advantage is that user would be able to customize the material based on your need.

3D Printers unveiled recently: The Replicator

In Jan 2012 MakerBot has unveiled “The Replicator”, a new 3D printer. It has the ability to print a 3D model up to the size of 100mm x 100mm x 100mm. It solves one of the technology’s biggest problems at the moment of printing large. It also offers Dualstrusion technology, making it possible to print in two colors. The Replicator can take either ABS (the plastic found in Lego) or biodegradable PLA plastic. The Replicator will cost $1,999 for the dual extruder or $1,749 for a single.

3D Printers in India:

In India, The Pune-based DesignTech Systems has also launched the world’s first sub-$15,000 3-D personal printer. It has the ability to build objects of up to 8 inch X 6 inch X 6 inch. It uses tough but light plastic material that is said to be ideal for creating quick models and prototypes. In India it will cost around Rs 7 lakhs.

BlackBerry has become a blaze in both consumer and business markets. So, here is a review on the new BlackBerry Playbook Tablet.
Blackberry Playbook Tablet Review

Playbook Features at a Glance:

Firstly I would like to list down its specifications and features to give you a brief overview:

  • 7-inch capacitive display with 1024×600 WSVGA resolution
  • BlackBerry Tablet OS called QNX
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM memory
  • MP3, AAC and WMA audio playback
  • Dual cameras
  • 5MP at rear
  • 3MP at front for video calling
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n) connectivity
  • Bluetooth 2.1+EDR support
  • HDMI out
  • Internal storage of 16, 32 and 64 GB depending on models

Operating System in Blackberry Playbook:

The power behind BlackBerry PlayBook is the new operating system called QNX. QNX in itself comes with very diverse features like facility to bridge to a BlackBerry Phone for a secured email connection. It really gives it an edge over IPAD2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab as its quite fast on its 1 GHz Dual Core Processor. Muti-tasking feature, where you can run a video in one window and play a game in another window with both applications running simultaneously, really looks like the icing on the cake.

Tethering Feature in Blackberry Playbook:

BlackBerry also adds the tethering feature to sync email and use the PlayBook as a larger external display for a BlackBerry smartphone . To be honest, the PlayBook, tethering with a BlackBerry smartphone isn’t just a feature, it’s a necessity. The initial PlayBook models will only be equipped with Wi-Fi, and will be unable to sync data with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) at all. So please check this out at the store if you are going to buy it.

You will be shocked to know that the PlayBook doesn’t do email. Using BlackBerry Bridge to tether the PlayBook with a BlackBerry smartphone will allow some email functionality by enabling the smartphone connection with BES to pass through to the tablet. As for email outside of BES, you have to use the Web to logging into Outlook Web Access. So for business users email feature is a severe handicap.

Android Support for Blackberry Playbook:

BlackBerry PlayBook will be able to run Android apps. However, the Android apps won’t run natively this in turn might lead to performance issues. The Android apps will run in a separate environment within an app player which can be downloaded from BlackBerry App World. The PlayBook will also run BlackBerry apps.

Android Support for Blackberry Playbook

File Storage In Blackberry Playbook:

Coming to File storage capabilities, BlackBerry PlayBook supports an HDMI connection for playing 1080p video and a professional interface makes it really interesting. However unfortunately, the overall experience can’t compete with either iPad 2 or Xoom it’s mostly because of the price factor. You might be shocked to know that the price of BlackBerry Playbook and iPAD2 is almost same.

Personal Comments:

The seven inch tablet might be a virtue as it is lighter and easier to work with one-hand but these features come at price of sacrificing display size.

I would like to provide an analogy here, let’s say you go to a restaurant to order a Pizza. However, after checking out the menu you find out that the Large Size Pizza is of the same price as a Medium sized one. So what would you prefer?? I am sure you are gonna prefer the large one. :)

To sum up I will suggest that if you don’t have a BlackBerry smartphone, don’t even think about getting a PlayBook tablet.

It was 6th October when Apple announced the death of its former chief executive Steve Jobs. Mr Jobs who stepped down recently, had been suffering from a rare form of pancreatic cancer. Many influential people and techies paid tribute to this Great Man.

Mr Jobs revealed the importance of  i (innovation) to the world. Today Geek Revealed is paying tribute to this greatest innovator of the century by bringing you some of Steve Jobs Quotes.

Steve Jobs Quotes

  • “If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it gets better and better as the years roll on.”
  • “When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like this: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, since then, for past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I knew I need to change something.”
  • “We don’t get a chance to do many things, and everyone should be really excellent. Because this is our life.”
  • “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
  • “The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one.”
  • “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have done something to loose.”
  • “Design is not just what it looks like. Design is how it works.”
  • “No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single beat invention of life. It is Life’s change agent. I clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quiet true.”
  • “Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me”
  • “That’s been one of my mantras focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
  • “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful once is pure perseverance”
  • “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
  • “Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.”
  • “You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”
  • “I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”

Facebook has publicized on its official blog that they will be rolling out some new security and privacy control features in the upcoming days which would solve the privacy problems being faced by Facebook users. According to the security experts Facebook’s privacy features are a positive step from the social networking giant and will defiantly make the completion between it and Google plus more tight.

Actually one of the main reasons why Google Plus flourished was the presence security loopholes in Facebook. Facebook users were continuously under the fear of loosing there Facebook accounts due to hacker attacks. And that’s why they sifted to Google Plus as it looked more reliable and safer. And being a Google product was another big advantage for Google Plus. But now Facebook has came up with a bang by bringing in some new security features that can make the Facebook security tighter.
Facebook’s Upcoming Privacy Features

According to Marian Merritt, Internet safety advocate with Symantec’s Norton “It seems to reflect some of what people have been asking for. The issues of privacy and of control over your data are a growing concern and consumers are paying more attention to them. However, the changes haven’t been rolled out yet, so I don’t know how hard they will be to configure. I’m pleased, but until I can start using them it’s all conjecture”.

Some of the new features which Facebook has added seems to have been be borrowed form Google plus. For instance, the choice of sharing posts with ‘Public’ or ’Friends’ and the convenience of deeper privacy controls on profile information is much like what Google+ has come up with.

As these privacy controls are not out yet so it’s quiet impossible to predict what impact it will have on the Facebook and more importantly on Google plus.

Drop in your comments and let us know what you thing, who is going to win that war of titans. :)

Last week it was the birthday of MS DOS and it has turned 30 now! So, today I am gonna share the story behind this prodigious OS. In fact I would go one step further and say that it was only because of it Microsoft became one of the big guns in personal computing and its founders some of the richest men on the planet. Actually MS Dos was the first operating system that Microsoft launched with the IBM PC, that they sold during the initial days.

Thirty years ago on 27-July-1981 Microsoft finalized a deal with Seattle Computers to purchase their operating system which was then called QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System). This OS was designed by an employee named Tim Paterson of Seattle Computers. It is quiet intesting to know that Tim designed this OS (QDOS) in just 6 weeks for some in house hardware!

MS DOS Turn 30

Microsoft bought all the rights to QDOS for a sum of $50,000. After QDOS was purchased by Microsoft they renamed it to MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) and then they bundled it with the IBM pc. It is said that Microsoft kept there deal with IBM a secret from Tim Paterson and his company, Seattle Computer Products. If Seattle Computers would have been aware about such a big deal they would have sealed a deal with IBM themselves and then Microsoft would not have been what it is today.

Later Microsoft offered a job to Tim Paterson and Tim worked with Microsoft until 1998. After the year 1998, Tim Paterson started his own company Paterson Technology. Paterson technology is a small company that develops unique hardware and software products near Seattle, Washington.

MS DOS was updated many times uptill 1994 before it was finally replaced by Windows 95. And now it is almost dead and Microsoft is not induged in doing any further developments in the OS.

This post is dedicated to MS DOS on its 30th Birthday. Do share your valuable feedback in the comments section below.
