Yesterday on 27th April 2012 Mozilla launched Firefox 13 Beta version into the market. Firefox 13 is a faster and much secure web browser when compared to its predecessors or the other products currently in the market.

Mozilla Reveals Firefox 13 Beta

Let’s peep into History:

Firefox was one of the first browsers that shook the world with its features when people were just happily browsing the internet with Internet explorer. It gave them a better web browsing experience. Meanwhile the stock/default web browser bundled with Windows OS never looked to outshine Mozilla Firefox. It was no match to the features of Mozilla Firefox. So, Firefox became the market leader in a short time.

But the kingship of Firefox was short lived and the Internet’s Big “G” launched its Chrome browser in the market and from there onwards both these browsers are fighting really hard to bring the best. And for becoming the best they roll out updates every second day to outshine one another.

Features of Firefox 13 Beta:

The new feature that Firefox 13 Beta incorporates is “SPDY”. This protocol is intended to become the successor of HTTP. SPDY protocol reduces the amount of time it takes to load a webpage.

According to Mozilla “SPDY encrypts the communications with SSL, which makes the browsing more secure”. It also makes the chances of a hacker to overhear your web communications thinner. Although in today’s time the websites that supports SPDY protocol are very few in numbers and hence the users will only see the difference in the sites that support SPDY Networking.

Firefox 13 Beta also has an upgraded homepage design which provides easy access to the bookmarks, settings, history, add-ons and downloads etc. The browsing tabs are also redesigned to match the Chromes looks. New feature “Quick Links” is also added to the browser that can be customized at a single click.

What’s new for Software Developers?

The beta version of Firefox 13 also has some updates for the Software Developers, the tools like page inspector now also allow you to gaze into the CSS pseudo classes and the Style editor has the capability to save the CSS files via file:// URLs. This makes the life easier as it doesn’t prompt you to make workflows for experimenting with CSS files.

You can download Firefox 13 Beta version form the official Firefox site at:
Mozilla Firefox Beta’s Website.

Now we just have to see that whether Google Chrome has any answer to Firefox 13 or not.
Feel free to share your ideas and feedback in the comments section below.

Today in this post I am going to guide you on  Google Chrome Download Manager add on. As all of you would agree Internet Download Managers are very beneficial to download files, music, videos, etc using your internet browser.  They have the capability to download a single file using multiple threads and this increases the speed.

Google Chrome Download Manager

Benefits of Chrome Download Manager Addon:

Before heading on to the main topic of listing down the Google Chrome Download Manager Add-ons, I would like to throw some light on why do we need download managers. You might not be surprised to know that Google Chrome is the most used Internet Browser worldwide. There are several benefits of using Download Managers which make the need of the hour. Please find below list of the benefits of using download manager:

1)      The biggest edge of using download manager is that it gives you a privilege to download data from websites like YouTube, Google Videos, etc.

2)      Secondly, using Download Managers you could easily manage your download as it gives you the functionality to pause, resume downloads and allows you to download multiple files simultaneously.

3)      Last but not the least, Download Managers provide an Increase in download speeds as most of these add-ons use multi-threading.

There are many download managers available in the market however all the good things are not for free. However you need not be upset as I am here to help you out on this. I will be sharing the list of top free Internet Download Managers for Chrome that are compatible with Chrome and are free of cost.

List of Free Google Chrome Download Manager:

Please find below list of top three Google Chrome Download Managers. I have highlighted pros and cons both of the below listed Download Managers. So go ahead and try one.

Internet Download Manager

Internet Download Manager

Most of you would have heard about this Download Manager. Internet Download Manger (IDM) is not free of cost, however it comes with a trial period of 30 days. So you could definitely use it for 30 days and at the end of the 30 days you will need a purchase key.

The best thing about IDM is that it integrates itself with the browser and automatically downloads all downloads. It queues the software as and when required and places it into appropriate folders and increases download speeds by doing multi-threading.

FlashGet

Flashget

If you are looking for a Download Manager that you could use for a longer time and you don’t want to spend a penny then FlashGet is the best Download Manager to suit your needs.

FlashGet comes with all features that are available in Internet Download Manager. In addition to it you could also be able to manage downloads based on Websites, you could easily add websites to blocked lists so that downloads would not be allowed from these websites.

The only problem that I have come across in FlashGet is that, its font size is very small and becomes difficult to read sometimes.

Download Accelerator Plus

Download Accelerator Plus

Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) is a powerful pack that has all features of Internet Download Manager and FlashGet and is free of cost.

There are some more features that are worth mentioning. DAP allows you to revive broken downloads which have been a victim of internet connectivity issues. Another worth mentioning feature is that DAP allows you to scan the downloaded file before saving the file.

I personally recommend to use DAP because of its amazing features that come at free of cost.

Download Assistant

Please note that all of the three Google chrome download manager listed above are not built into Chrome Browser. Although you could use an extension – “Download Assistant”. It allows you to select any of the listed download manager while downloading a file from internet.

Additional Tip:

Please note that most of the Chrome download manager use a trigger mechanism that is based on file extensions. So in case you come across an issue wherein your download manager is not detecting the file then please check this: Option > Allowed file extensions at your download manager.

Please feel free to share your feedback and suggestions in the comments section below.

Cheers!

Although I am not a big time fan of Firefox but still sometimes I do use Firefox because of its add-on support. Few days back while browsing on Firefox, I noticed that it is occupying a big chunk of memory on my machine. I tried to reduce its memory usage by closing out some tabs but it didn’t worked, latter I surfed this on internet and came to know that it is a very strange behaviour of Firefox generally called as Firefox memory leak. The main cause of the memory leak is that may be Firefox is not able to release the free memory properly and hence goes on taking up the memory without any limit.

Firefox memory leak

Fixing memory leaks in Firefox by using Firemin:

Firemin is a third party application that can check and optimize the memory usage of Firefox. It is also called Firefox Plumber. Firemin ideally sits in the background and manages Firefox memory from there.

Fix for Firefox memory leak issue by using Firemin

Simply install Firemin and it will automatically take care of the Firefox memory leak. You can also set Firefox to launch whenever you run Firemin. You can download Firemin here [Fix for Firefox memory leak]

To install simply unzip the downloaded “fireman.zip” file, run the Fireman.exe and it will do the Firefox babysitting for you :)

Reduce Memory Leak issue in Firefox by changing configuration:

If you don’t want to install any third party application to fix Firefox memory leak then you can do certain changes in the Firefox configuration although these changes won’t fix the leaks completely but still they are quite helpful in reducing them.

  • Open the Firefox browser and in the URL bar enter “about:config”.
  • Now you will find a page where all the Firefox configurations are enlisted.
  • Right click on the configuration page and choose New > Integer and name it as “browser.cache.memory.capacity”. Set it to 16384 (means 15 MB).
  • Again right click on the configuration page and create another Integer named as “browser.cache.disk.capacity”. Set it to 15000.
  • Now create another attribute this time a Boolean one. Right click select New > Boolean and name it as “config.trim_on_minimize”. Set it to true. This means that whenever you minimize Firefox it will try to free up memory on its own.

After doing these changes restart the Firefox and you will notice that the memory leak issue in Firefox will be significantly reduced.

If you want to speed up your Firefox then you should read this post: [Speed up Firefox]

I guess all Google Chrome users would have gone through the most annoying problem where in Google Crashes while using shockwave flash. This problem has been reported to Google many times and they have tried to fix it however still the problem has continued through Chrome 10 to the current Chrome 15. In this tutorial today, I am going to help you on how to fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome.

Fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome
Before heading onto the ways to fix this issue, I will be sharing some info with you that what exactly is this problem, when does it occur and why causes chrome to crash.

When does Chrome Crashes and Why?

You might have observed that when you try to browse a Flash-based website like YouTube, or tools like Gmail which rely on Flash. The flash plugin crashes with a message saying: “The following plugin has crashed: Shockwave Flash”. If you ignore the reference to Shockwave, the error message actually means that the “Abode Flash Player plugin has crashed.” Please note that it has nothing to do with the Abode Shockwave Player which is a separate program.
Google chrome already includes an integrated version of Flash Player which is automatically updated by Chrome. Normally there is no need to download the standalone version of Flash Player, it’s actually planned for non-IE users (primarily Firefox). Please note that if Firefox or any other Web Browser is installed on your computer, then it’s quite likely that there is an installed standalone version of Flash for firefox or other web browsers on your machine. Therefore Chrome tires to use the two versions of Flash Player – one its own version built into Chrome and second the standalone Abode version that has been installed for Firefox or any other browser. As both of these versions are active it often makes Chrome unstable as both version of Abode Shockwave flash conflict with each other.
In this article I have shared seven methods to fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome.

Method 1: Fix  for shockwave crash in chrome using Plug-in settings

In this method we will fix the shockwave flash crashes using Plug-in settings:

  • Open Chrome browser.
  • Type   “about:plugins” (without quotes) in the website address bar at the top of the chrome browser.
  • Now press the ENTER key to display Chrome’s Plugins page
  • Look down the list of Plug-ins for ‘Flash’ – if it says ‘Flash (2 files)’ then you do have both versions of Flash installed which may be the cause of Chrome to crash while you try to access Flash-based websites.
  • Now click on the ‘+ Details’ link on the top right of the Plugins page to expand the list of all Plugins
  • After the list of all plugins open, scroll down the list to find the Flash plugin – you would now be able to see the full details of the Flash plugin displaying two versions of Flash as in the example below:
Plugin Page in Google Chrome
  • Look at the ‘Location:’ of each version – one is the integrated Chrome version:

“Application Data\Google\Chrome”

the other is the standalone Adobe (formerly Macromedia) version which is located in the following location:

“Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash”

  • Now Click on ‘Disable’ option you would be able to find it just under the Location of the Chrome version. After disabling it will be greyed out.
  • Ensure that the standalone Adobe version is enabled – if it is disabled (greyed out) then click the ‘Enable’ link just under its Location to enable it) then close the Plugins tab.
  • Now close Chrome.
  • Now for your Firefox browser you need to download Adobe standalone version of Flash from Filehippo.
  • After downloading the standalone version of Flash, start the installation.
  • After installation start Chrome and visit the Adobe Flash Player test page to check if the Flash is now properly installed and working ok.

Method 2: Fix for shockwave crashes in chrome using standalone version for flash.

If you have only one flash plugin which is integrated to Chrome in that case also you need to install a standalone Flash version. Please download the latest version of standalone Flash application from Filehippo here.
After download close the Chrome browser and start the installation of the downloaded flash program and follow the steps given in Method 1. I believe this method will work better for you as you will be switching off Chrome’s Flash completely and instead of that you would be using standalone Abode’s Flash.

Method 3: Fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome using built in Chrome Flash settings.

If the above methods of disabling Chrome’s flash have not worked for you then probably this time we are going to try it vice versa i.e. instead of disabling in-built Chrome Flash we will be trying to disable the standalone version of Flash by uninstalling it. After uninstalling the standalone version, restart your computer and try to access flash based sites like YouTube and check if Chrome is working fine now without crashing.

Method 4: Fix for shockwave crashes in chrome using Incognito mode.

In this method we will try to fix the problem by enabling Flash in Incognito mode. Please follow below mentioned step by step procedure:

  1. Open Chrome Browser.
  2. Click the wrench or spanner option available on top at Right hand side of the menu.
  3. Select “New Incognito Window”. Incognito mode disables all Extensions of Chrome.
  4. Now check if your Chrome is working fine while accessing Flash based websites.
  5. If it does work fine without crashing then it means that your Extensions are causing the problem.
  6. Now go back to normal mode in Chrome.
  7. Disable your extensions by clicking on the wrench or spanner option available on top at Right hand side of the menu.
  8. Select Options. Under options select Extensions on the Left hand side of the pane.
  9. Now try to disable all extensions one at a time. After disabling each extension test if Flash works in Chrome without crashing or not.
  10. Once chrome stops crashing, leave the last extension disabled and enable other extensions.

So this disabled extension is the root cause of the crashing issue of your chrome.

Method 5: Fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome by updating graphics card drivers

If your chrome is still not working fine after trying above mentioned four methods then you may try to update your graphics card drivers. It often happens that Driver Updates are released in market to fix an issue with Windows and other programs or to enable new features.

Method 6: Fixing shockwave flash crashes in chrome by disabling flash acceleration

Diver or hardware compatibility issue might also be the possible cause of the crash. To eliminate this you need to Disable Flash hardware acceleration. You need to uncheck ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’ in the Flash Display panel. You need to do this during flashback of a Flash Video, right click the picture and select ‘Settings’. Now select the “Display” panel which the first tab is shown at the bottom of the settings. Here in this pane, uncheck ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.

After disabling it check if chrome is working fine now without crashing.

Method 7: Fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome using nuclear option

If none of the above options has worked for you then I will suggest you to try Flash based websites in Firefox once. If these websites do not crash in Firefox although they have crashed in Chrome then probably your version of Chrome has been corrupted. The last resort to fix it is to uninstall chrome completely, remove all browsing data and after this try to reinstall latest stable version of Chrome (Chrome 15)

Please remember to take backup of all links and bookmarks before you uninstall.

So this was all about how to fix shockwave flash crashes in chrome. Please share your suggestions and concerns in comments section below.

Cheers!

Firefox is probably one of the best internet browser these days. It is so much popular among users because of its features and its extremely light interface that does not consume much system resources. But if you are a power internet user and have used Firefox to extremes then you will feel that it is okay for normal users but for a power user it is not the best choice. For instance if you have around 20-25 tabs opened then it will make your browsing experience slow by hogging the system resources. So, today in this guide I will be highlighting some points by which you can know how to speed up Firefox.

How to Speed Up Firefox

How to Speed Up Firefox - General Tips :

Actually there are some general tweaks that you can find anywhere on the internet to speed up Firefox. So, before I do anything else I will be reminding you about these general tweaks.

1. Firstly check the add-ons that you are using on Firefox. If you find some add-ons that you are not using now, then it’s a good practice to remove them. Actually the more add-ons you have the less stable your Firefox becomes. Here I would like to make one thing very clear that there is a difference between disabling an add-on and removing an add-on completely. Disabling an add-on means that the add-on is inactive but still it will use your system resources on the other hand removing an add-on completely means that you have uninstalled that add-on and it is no longer in your system.

2. Secondly you need to check the plug-ins installed in Firefox and remove the plug-ins that are of no use to you. Actually there are certain software’s that install some promotional plug-ins on your browser and these annoying plug-ins consume your bandwidth and also keep hogging your system resources, so it’s a good practice to keep checking plug-ins installed on your Firefox and remove the waste ones regularly.

3. If you feel that your Firefox is running dead slow then you should also try clearing you browser history and cookies.

How to Speed Up Firefox by changing Firefox configuration file:

This part is a bit tricky and before going further ahead I would suggest you to take a backup of the Firefox configuration file, so that in case anything goes wrong you can revert back to your previous settings.

The configuration file is named as “prefs.js” and it can be found at following locations on your system.

Windows Xp:

<system drive>\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile ID>.default\

Windows 7 or Windows Vista:

<system drive>\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile ID>.default\

Generally the file is hidden so you may need to select the “show hidden files” option and then copy the “pref.js” file to some other location.

Basics of tweaking the Firefox configurations:

Firefox offers a specialized way to change the configuration settings, you don’t need to conventionally open the files in a text editor and then change its values but Firefox allows you do do the changes in a more sophisticated way. All you have to do is to open your preference file on Firefox for this simply type: “about:config” (without quotes) in your Firefox url bar. After opening this file firefox will prompt you with a warning, click the button “I’ll be careful I Promise”. Now Firefox will display you a long list of preferences that you can change, but do not change any value without knowing about it as it may result in making your browser unstable.

  • To change any Boolean parameters simply double click the parameter and the parameter value will get toggled. By toggling I mean that if the value is initially “true” then it will turn to “false” and vice versa.
  • In case on your Firefox you don’t have any preference that needs to be changed than you can add the preference by right clicking on the preference page in the about:config window and choose New > String, Integer or Boolean depending on the data type of the preference.
  • According to my experience to find a relevant parameter among all the listed parameters is quiet tough so in order to make this process easy, use the filter bar above the window. In the filter bar you can type in the parameter name and all the related parameters will be listed accordingly.

Preferences to be changed for improving Firefox speed:

Here I have mentioned a list of all the parameters that can be changed to improve your Firefox speed. If any parameter that I have mentioned is not on your preference list then you can add the parameter as told above. If any of your parameter is already set to a value mentioned then you can simply skip that parameter and move on.

browser.tabs.animate: false

By default this setting is true, this parameter is responsible for enabling or disabling tab animations (e.g. when you open a new tab). This parameter can make your Firefox plain and dull but it can drastically improve your speed.

browser.display.show_image_placeholders: false

By default this is set to true, this parameter is responsible to display the image placeholders before images are loaded.

network.prefetch-next: true

This setting is responsible for fetching the contents of a page that are linked to a page that you are viewing. This makes your internet experience faster.

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 8

This setting increases the maximum number of persistent connections per server which can help to speed up loading of multimedia rich sites. Default value is 6

network.http.pipelining: true

If this setting is set to true then your browser can send multiple requests to the server at a time. One thing I would like to bring to your notice that this is not supported by all the servers and some servers can send incorrect response to the request and this can cause unexpected behavior.

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 8

This can specify the number of requests that can be pipelined together to be sent to the server.

network.dns.disableIPv6: true

It disables IPv6 DNS lookups to prevent a significant delay with poorly configured IPv6 servers. By default this value is set to False

At last you need to add a parameter named “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”. Do it as follows right click anywhere on the “about:config”page and select the “New” > “Integer” option and Name it as “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” (without quotes) and set its value to “0″(without quotes). This parameter specifies the time the browser waits before it acts on the requests that it receives.

So, these were all the tweaks that I have personally used and they worked fine on my machine. These tweaks have made my Firefox quiet fast and have improved the overall browsing experience. But if anything goes wrong for you then you can simple replace the “pref.js” file that you have backed up initially.

Happy Browsing :)

On every Christmas Eve I wished if Santa could gift me a technology or feature to auto replay videos on YouTube, so that I could enjoy my favourite songs and videos repeatedly without bothering myself to replay it manually. So today in this tutorial I am going to guide on “How to auto replay YouTube videos”.

The ways that I am going to suggest for this task largely depend on the Internet Browser that you are using.

Steps to Auto Replay YouTube Videos for Firefox Users using Loopy

Loopy is a handy script for Grease monkey. Once installed if allows you to repeat YouTube videos over and over again automatically. However please note that this add-on could be used only for Firefoz users.

How to Auto Replay YouTube Videos

Please follow below steps to auto replay youtube in Firefox browser:

1) Download and install GreaseMonkey add-on to your Firefox.

2) Restart Firefox once GreaseMonkey is installed.

3) Now Install Loopy from here.

4) Now open any YouTube video.

5) Once the video starts playing click on loop as shown in below picture.

6) Please note that “Loop” button would be initially gray / black in color. However once it is turned on, the color will change to red.

The video you play will be in loop until you turn of loopy or choose another song.

Steps to Auto Replay YouTube Videos using Repeater

If you don’t have Firefox browser or in case you don’t want to install Greasemonkey, then here is the way that would auto replay youtube videos for you. YouTubeRepeater is a website that allows you to automatically replay any YouTube Video. All you have to do is to follow below steps:

1) Go to YouTube.com and find your video.

2) Now in the URL Bar type repeater between youtube and .com

3) Press Enter.

Example: Lets say your YouTube URL was something like this :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM

Replay YouTube Videos

Now you enter repeater in between youtube and .com. Now your url will look like: http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM

Youtube Repeater

This will auto replay your video a number of times until you either change the video or stop / pause the video.

Steps to Auto Replay YouTube Videos in Firefox using Inbuilt Feature

You will be amazed to know that YouTube has an inbuilt functionality to repeat video over and over again. All you have to do is to enter in a URL with specific looping parameters. The following is the format that you have to use to do this:

http://www.youtube.com/v/(VideoID)&loop=1

Don’t worry about the much longer URL, it will still achieve the same results. To find the ID of a Youtube video however, you first need to visit the video page as you would normally would, like below example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM

Every character after the equals sign is included in the video ID (meaning this video’s ID is _OBlgSz8sSM). So in order to repeat this video automatically the full URI will be:

http://www.youtube.com/v/_OBlgSz8sSM&loop=1

However please note that this feature works only for Firefox users with Greasemonkey extension. If you do not have Greasemonkey extension then please download it here and restart firefox after installation to enable this feature.

You can also check the entire list of parameters supported by the YouTube player.

So, this was all about how to auto replay YouTube videos.
